Best time to visit Split
Generally speaking from April to September it’s for sure the best period to visit Split. Although you cannot still enjoy swimming in April, you will certainly find warm and shinny weather.
In April, the weather is pleasant and you can benefit of rather low accommodation prices. It is wise to book in advance any kind of private or hotel accommodation. Travelers who prefer camping sites accommodation may find some of them still closed.
May and June are two months specially convenient for outdoor activities. Most popular are biking/cycling, canoeing/kayaking and walking. If you are lover of active vacations, don’t miss to visit my recommended partners. Accommodation prices are still reasonable and you can enjoy long, sunny days.
At the end of May and first week of June is a traditional period of school students trips. Some cultural and natural sights in Split (including Plitvice Lakes and Krka river falls) can be rather crowded.
Period from July to August is considered the high season. Accommodation prices are the highest in Split but also on Hvar and Brac islands. I suggest to book your accommodation in nearby Podstrana riviera, only few miles from Split city center. There you’ll find interesting deals and good quality accommodation with reasonable prices.
In July and August there are a greater number of ferries from Split to Central Dalmatia islands. This is particularly convenient if you traveling by car to Hvar or Brac island. Between mid July to mid August, local ferry company Jadrolinija, triples number of connections. In this period there are over ten ferries daily to Brac (Supetar) and Hvar (Stari Grad).
I recommend , September in Split . It’s the best month to visit my city. Already, in the first days of September, Split becomes a completely different city. Daily hustle and bustle of August is almost gone. The city’s streets, ferry port, restaurants get more peaceful lifestyle. Even prices tend to decrease slightly.
Good news for all travelers is, that in September (up to mid October) all ferry and catamaran timetable will be unchanged. That is a good possibility to visit all nearby islands.
